Introducing Sameer

In this month’s Teen Think Tank Project’s Alumni Spotlight, we are pleased to introduce Sameer Desai. Sameer is not only a talented sophomore at Seton Hall University, but he is also a Teen Think Tank Project alum.  Before enrolling in  Seton Hall/Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine’s 7-year Joint Bachelor’s M.D. program, he was a member of our Financial Security Research Cohort. His academic journey is marked by not only a commitment to excellence in his chosen field but also a deep-seated passion for science and mathematics.

Leadership and Extracurricular Involvement

Sameer stands out as a distinguished student leader, having been competitively selected to attend the Buccino Leadership Institute, a prestigious program known for nurturing top-tier leadership skills. His commitment to leadership extends beyond the classroom, as evidenced by his active participation in various volunteer organizations and clubs on campus. Notable among these are DOVE (Division of Volunteer Efforts), HOSA (Future Health Professionals), and Pre-Med Connect.

Passion for Science and Innovation

Sameer’s profound interest in the sciences has been a constant throughout his life. He views science not just as a subject of study but as a source of inspiration and motivation. His perspective on the field reflects a desire to explore the versatile skills required to thrive in the scientific space and to push the boundaries of innovation.

When discussing his motivations, Sameer states, “It was always the subject that I deeply connected to and had a passion for regardless of the grade that I received or how it was taught.” This commitment to learning and passion for discovery underlines his aspirations to contribute to the medical or clinical field, merging his love for science and mathematics.

Intersection of Medicine and Business

Looking toward the future, Sameer envisions combining his expertise in both medicine and business. His goal is to delve deeper into healthcare and innovation, focusing on areas that directly impact patient outcomes. He aims to translate his insights into actions that address healthcare inequities, aligning with Seton Hall’s mission to bridge connections between local, national, and international communities for the betterment of society.

Community Engagement and Advocacy

Sameer’s commitment to community service is exemplified through his involvement in the DE&I (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) and healthcare advocacy work with the Teen Think Tank Project. This passion for community service and his creative approach to making a positive impact underscore his dedication to societal betterment.

Inspiring Others

One of the most remarkable aspects of Jeremy Cimino’s journey is his ability to inspire those around him. His peers look up to him as a role model, and his professors speak highly of his potential significant impact on the world of nursing. Jeremy’s passion, dedication, and compassionate nature are infectious, motivating others to strive for excellence in their own healthcare careers.

Vision for the Future

Driven by an unrelenting desire for knowledge and an altruistic spirit, Sameer aspires to see the impact of his leadership continue to grow, both during his academic tenure at Seton Hall and throughout his professional career. His multifaceted interests, combining finance, medicine, and community service, reflect a holistic approach to education and a commitment to making a meaningful contribution to society.

Sameer Desai embodies the spirit of a well-rounded and forward-thinking student, poised to leave a lasting impact in the academic, professional, and community spheres.
